Bogus Caller - Electrical Board
On Monday 3rd October 2011 between 1800 and 1845 the below described person was disturbed from inside the utility room at a property in Cradley, Malvern, by the occupier.
Enquiries have established that at midday on the day of the attempted burglary a man called at the property purporting to be from N-Power.
This male did not address the property owner by name but said, "I have come to look at your electricity pole". The owner of the property, who was alone in the house, took him to the rear of the house were the wooded pole was situation approx fifteen foot from the back door.
The man made no specific comments about the pole and did not make any notes or anything which one would expect from an engineer. After about two minutes, the male then walked off back to his van at the bottom of the drive.
Enquiries have been made with N Power and Western Power Distribution. This male was not one of their employees. They further state no call had been made for action at this address.
The male is described as:-
A white male.
Age 30-40.
No facial hair/clean shaven.
5 foot eight to six foot tall
Medium build
Short hair-ginger or light brown
No accent
He was wearing a green short sleeve T-shirt with N-Power on the breast pocket.
The owner of the property saw the male getting into a white van parked at the end of the drive. It had a ladder on the roof, unfortunately no registration was noted.
It is clear that the burglary attempt which occurred several hours later is linked with this bogus caller. The bogus caller was interested in the pole near the rear of the premises, the suspect gained entry at the rear of the premises. Further to that there is a public footpath at the rear of the premises and it is believed that the burglary suspect has approached the house from the rear using this footpath.
